Warm Days Radio 7

I can’t believe its been so long since there was a Warm Days Radio. I’m not inclined to do much podcasting these days, as we are surrounded by so much great music anyway. But this one felt needed. It’s the kind of selection I was playing in the afternoons at Kitcheners there in Joburg last year. So here’s three hours of supreme music. How many songs can you name?

Keeping it moving, more recorded sounds from Sundays in Joburg CBD. This time joined by Detroit maestro Alton Miller. Watch out for the live session with Kholi Twala, plus the Sean McCabe recording.

QB, Bubbles & Guest DJ Christos

Been a long long time coming, I have a few of these recordings stored up, so look out for a couple more, with guests Alton Miller and Sean McCabe – live from our sunday sessions at Kitcheners, Johannesburg, this one with legendary DJ Christos alongside Bubbles and myself. Next date this coming Sunday with guest Nana, and then end of month Kholi Twala live supported by Warm Days Ensemble. Patterns, Jozi Deep Movement, Sunday Nights. Thanks people!

Dance In Honour Of The Gods Volume One

A couple months back I was glad and grateful to be asked to play at Kenzhero and Tha Muzik’s latin themed night Obrigado at The Living Room, a truly wonderful Joburg party, and to put a short half hour mix together for their podcast. This is a slightly extended version of that. Some of the most moving and sublime music ever written and recorded emerged out of Brazil, and has been of a massive influence to pretty much any of us involved in soul, jazz, house and so on. A lot of these are well-played classics that are not new to the DJs and collectors, yet having not listened to them for a while they sound fresh as fuck to my ears. If it’s new to you, please put it on repeat a few times, and lets its glorious nature sink in.

Way Back When Volume One

It’s three years since the “I Remember House…” mix, which wasn’t house at all. This, is the follow up, Way Back When Volume One, a selection of choice boogie and disco, the stuff that house was born from. If Frankie Knuckles (rest in peace) is the godfather of house, then these songs are (some of) the godparents of today’s house songs. Most of these are late 70s, with a few being early 80s. Although I didn’t know them till the late 80s and in some cases the 90s. I was discovering these things as a young DJ, a collector, and a clubber, in the record shops, on the radio, and of course hearing other DJs playing them in the clubs. Some of them were huge hits, others not quite so well known.
